Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear : Zimmermann

Zimmermann is a brand which is definitely considered an underdog within the fashion industry. Of course, the name is recognised by many, but perhaps if one isn't interested in fashion than Zimmermann may be unheard of. But for someone like me who lives and breathes fashion, Zimmermann is definitely a label I cannot resist to write about. Nicky Zimmermann explained his inspiration of this collection backstage saying; "I grew up in the Suburbs of Sydney, about 45 minutes out of the city. You were kind of deprived of access to the subculture happening in town. So, every Saturday, I'd drive in with my friends and we would make our own outfits." This collection was obviously heavily inspired by Nicky's own experiences and her lust for fashion but being faced with obstacles. Perhaps a blessing in disguise?

The collection certainly had that element of hand-made, do-it-yourself, throw pieces together kind of feel. The ruffled looks and oversized shapes are perfect for Spring/Summer and probably that inspiration came from the weather from her roots. The floral patterns, lace and ruffles, ruffles, tules and layers really put me in the spring/summer mood, and that is exactly what I want from a collection for this season. Despite the fashion of course being appealing to the eyes - they need to be practical for the weather and climate around these seasons and I think Nicky really nailed that with her pieces. Even the suited look was oversized with loose silk fabrics to ensure the client is cool. I loved that. What is also loved about the Zimmermann brand is the craftsmanship and luxurious fabrics that are incorporated into the pieces, at a reasonable price point. I say this loosely of course, as it is a luxury brand, but the amount of work that goes into the clothes behind the scenes is extraordinary and I really think Zimmermann needs more recognition. Of course the brand has recently been worn by some of the most photographed women in the world - Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner etc. I'm sure business for Zimmermann, if not now, will be booming over the next season.
