AW15 : Christian Dior

Over the past season, I have really been loving Dior. It usually isn't to my taste, but their accessories are on point and when I saw Dakota Johnson arrive at the show - I knew instantly I needed to watch it.

When you think DIOR you feel innocence. You see femininity and you automatically think back to the brand's makeup and fragrance adverts. Very virginal and pretty. This collection however, was not.
I liked this collection mostly because it surprised me. It's the first collection I have ever reviewed on Dior, and it certainly didn't exceed any of my expectations. Not because I didn't like the collection - but because it was so different. A highlight for me were the patent boots. I loved them all - especially the black, something I can see working with every piece in my wardrobe.

I also loved the colours that Raf Simons had incorporated, considering this was an AW collection. He said himself; "something liberated, more darker and more sexual." I agree. This collection was certainly empowering to the women, conveying a more strong vibe, rather than a pretty floral vibe. He included tailored pieces, which really latched onto the french fashion feel, being contrasted with bold, graphic prints which could be described as commercial but in a good way. It expresses his confidence as a designer, knowing he can put anything forward and that it all just works. Another feature I especially liked were the bags. There was so much variety at this show in Paris. So much colour and so much thought. Being a bag-aholic myself, I was in my element. A distinctive shaped bag, with a curve, finished with the iconic Dior keychain was a highlight for me. Coming in snakeskin white, alongside a sunset ombre - something we would all like to see in AW!

The collection could be described as odd, but for good reason. Something different. What was the message here? The message was sexuality. Empowerment and femininity. Those thigh-high vinyl boots scream sex, but toned down with beautiful coats and being hidden behind beautiful tailoring. A contrast I love and a contrast that will be huge this upcoming season.
